Ouch!

Today was McKinley's first emergency room visit. She was just playing and dislocated her thumb. I was so cool and calm on the outside but I was freaking out on the inside. I called Val and told him that McKinley had dislocated her thumb and that I was leaving and could he come over. I left Avrie with Paige and Brockston was playing the computer. She screamed when it happened but I was able to calm her down and she just kinda cried faintly. She was amazed at the position of her thumb but not enough to keep her
from crying. That just looks like it hurts!

They took some x rays and sure enough, it was dislocated. (I should be a doctor) So they pinned her down to give her the numbing shot and she cried harder for that then the actual dislocation. Once that kicked in, he could put it back in place without pain. (I know what those shots feel like and it feels like molasses going in, and it burns like fire.) She was great after the shot.

He put it back in place and put a splint on it that she has to keep on for 7 - 10 days. Then she has to see an orthopedic surgeon to make sure it is healing properly. She tore her joint cup or something like that...joint something...so she may need like physical therapy. Crazy!

This wasn't exactly how I pictured spending part of my day, but it was a change of pace. And of course she had to do it on a Saturday so we had to go to the ER. I was actually very impressed at how well she handled the pain. She must have high pain tolerance. She gets it from me of course!

I've never dislocated anything, and I can't even imagine how much that must have hurt. What a brave woman she is.

Do you really have high pain tolerance? I've always thought you were kinda wimpy---jk! I've never dislocated anything either. It was fun hanging out yesterday. Hope we get to see you guys again soon.
